Weather and climate in Central Asia
Central Asia has a distinct inland climate with large temperature differences between the seasons and sometimes between day and night. Summers can be very hot, especially in desert areas and low-lying cities in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, while winters can be cold, especially in mountainous regions and high plateaus.
Spring and autumn are often the most pleasant periods for touring Central Asia. The temperature is usually more comfortable for city visits, bazaars, excursions and hiking in easier terrain. In the mountainous areas of Kyrgyzstan, for example around Son Kul and Issyk Kul, the weather is affected by altitude and season.
